Young Asian Canadian Singing Competition Rules

  1. Purpose of Competition
    1. The competition is designed to encourage young Asian Canadians to celebrate their heritage and be involved with their communities, by showcasing their talents in a cultural activity.  The series of Competitions will lead to the month of May in celebration of Asian Heritage Month.

 

  1. Contestant Eligibility and Requirements
    1. The Competition is open to all Asian Canadian youth aged between 14 and 25 years old on February 8, 2008.
    2. Applicants must be of Asian heritage.
    3. Applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Landed Immigrants.
    4. Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada.
    5. Applicants are ineligible if they are under contract for any entertainment related talent, or participated as a finalist in the Canadian Idol Competition.
    6. Applicants must present two pieces of valid identification (such as birth certificate, driver's license, or passport), including a recent photo identification at the Open Audition.
    7. Applicants must submit a completed and validly signed Registration Form at the Open Audition.
    8. Applicants under the age of majority (18 years old in Ontario) must bring parental/guardian consent form, duly reviewed, approved and signed by their parent or legal guardian.
    9. Illegal or controlled substances, alcohol, or weapons are not permitted at the Audition and at any Competitions.
    10. Contestants should dress conservatively and refrain from wearing items bearing logos, names, images, or messages.

  1. The Open Audition
    1. The Open Audition will be held on April 12, 2008, from 1:00-5:00pm, at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto, 5183 Sheppard Ave., East, Scarborough, ON. M1B 5Z5
    2. The audition will be processed on a first come first served basis.
    3. 20 contestants will be selected to advance to the next level of competition at the Open Competition.
    4. Due to the limited time frame for the Open Audition, some individuals who want to audition may not get a chance to do so.  The Organizer is in no way liable for this loss of opportunity.
    5. Eligible Contestants will be invited to sing the whole or part of a song in front of Judges or designated representatives of the Organizer.  Contestants should have three songs prepared and will be asked to sing with music CD accompaniment.
    6. Only Music CD player will be available for the Open Audition and all Competitions.  There will no VCD, DVD, Karaoke, MP3, or Cassette players available or permitted for the Open Audition and all Competitions.
    7. The Organizer will notify Contestants who have been chosen to advance to the Open Competition as soon as reasonably practicable after the Open Audition.   The Organizer shall not be obliged to notify unsuccessful contestants.
  1. The Open Competition
    1. The Open Competition will be held on April 23, 2008, from 7:00-10:00pm, at the P.C. Ho Theatre of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto, 5183 Sheppard Ave., East, Scarborough, ON. M1B 5Z5
    2. The 20 contestants selected from the Open Audition and the twelve 2nd place winners from the seeded member organizations will compete to advance to the next level of competition.  Eight Pre-Finalist will be selected to compete at the Pre-Final Competition.
    3. The Contestants will be invited to sing with music CD accompaniment the whole or part of a song of the Contestant’s own choice, in front of a panel of Judges or designated representatives.
    4. Following the completion of the Open Competition, contestants will be notified who have been selected by the Judges to advance to the Pre-Final Competition.

 

  1. The Pre-Final Competition
    1. The Pre-Final Competition will be held on April 30, 2008, from 7:00-10:00pm, at the P.C. Ho Theatre of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto, 5183 Sheppard Ave., East, Scarborough, ON. M1B 5Z5
    2. The eight Pre-Finalist will be joined by the twelve 1st place winners from the seeded member organizations, to compete for advancement to the next level of the competition.  Eight Finalist will be selected to compete at the Final Competition.
    3. The Pre-Finalist will be invited to sing with music CD accompaniment the whole or part of a song of the Pre-Finalist’s own choice, in front of a panel of Judges.
    4. At the discretion of the Organizer, the pre-finalist may be invited to sing a pre-selected song individually or in a group or both.
    5. As soon as practicable, the pre-finalist will be notified who have been selected by the Judges to advance to the Final Competition.
  1. The Final Competition
    1. The Final Competition will be held on May 17, 2008, from 7:30-10:30pm at the P.C. Ho Theatre of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto, 5183 Sheppard Ave., East, Scarborough, ON. M1B 5Z5
    2. The eight Finalist will compete for the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners.
    3. Each Finalist will be invited to sing two whole songs with music CD accompaniment of the Finalist’s own choice, in front of a panel of Judges.
    4. The Finalist may also be invited to sing a pre-selected song individually or in a duet or in a group, at the discretion of the Organizer.
    5. At the discretion of the Organizer, voting by the audience in combination of results by the Judges may be allowed to determine the winners. 


  2. General Competition Rules
    1. The Organizer reserves the right to change the structure of the Competition as it sees fit including, adding, deleting or changing, auditions, competitions, venues, and contestants to the Competition. The Organizer also reserves the right to request additional performances from the Contestants or changing the anticipated auditioning or competition schedule.
    2. Contestants must make themselves available to participate in the Competition, agree to and sign applicable Registration Forms and abide by the terms and conditions of such Registration Forms, and the rules, regulations, terms and conditions as devised from time to time by the Organizer.
    3. The Organizer may request Contestants to participate in additional activities relating to the Competition including interviews, appearances, promotional, publicity, and sponsorship activities.
    4. The Organizer's and Judges' decision is final and the Contestants acknowledge that the interests of the Competition shall override those of any Contestant.  The Organizer reserves the right to make all final decisions relating to the Competition.
    5. The Organizer reserves the right to request the Contestant to perform a specified song.  At all times during the Competition, the Organizer reserves the right of veto over the choice of song, even where Contestants are permitted to select the song they wish to perform.
    6. The Organizer will have no liability to a Contestant who is unable to attend or take part in any part of the Competition for whatever reason, as determined by the Organizer in its sole discretion.
    7. The Organizer has the right to require proof of identity and/or eligibility.  Failure to provide such proof within a reasonable time could result in disqualification from the Competition. 
    8. All personal details and information requested by and supplied to the Organizer by each Contestant must be truthful, accurate and in no way misleading.  The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any Contestant from the Audition or Competition in its sole discretion, should the Contestant at any stage supply untruthful, inaccurate or misleading personal details and/or information or should the Contestant be ineligible for the Competition pursuant to the Competition Rules.
    9. The Organizer reserves the right to amend the Competition Rules or terminate the Competition at any time without any liability to any Competitor. 
    10. The Organizer also reserves the right to replace at its discretion any Contestant with another replacement Contestant, who for any reason fails or is disqualified from or unable to participate in any aspect of the Competition, notwithstanding that the replacement Contestant may have been previously eliminated from the Competition.
    11. Contestants must at all times behave appropriately when taking part in the Competition and observe the Competition Rules and any other rules. The Organizer reserves the right in its discretion to remove from the Competition, or the premises, any Contestant who breaks such rules or fails to behave appropriately and to disqualify such Contestant.
    12. These competition rules are additional to the terms and conditions of the Registration Forms signed by the Contestant.
